My first week in Malaysia I wore a face mask everywhere I went. I stopped after a week because I didnt see too many others doing that.

ok... i was also there at the time of SARS if you remember that.. everyone was freaking out ok. so yea i did walk around with a mask over my mouth and nose everywhere because I was a bit paranoid to be honest, but I think most of that comes from how they portray things in the media..
because when I got there I didn't see anyone else freaking out about it so I stopped wearing it after a while...
